Since then, a series of unusual events have occurred in public, including allegations that Alex stole funds intended for the family of his housekeeper, Gloria Satterfield, who died as a result of a trip and fall on the Murdaugh property, and an alleged assisted-suicide plot that Alex claims he orchestrated in order for his surviving son to collect millions in life insurance. Jurors must decide whether Alex murdered his family to divert attention away from his mounting financial crimes, which included stealing millions of dollars from legal clients, friends, and colleagues, as his murder trial nears its conclusion. This two-hour “20/20” delves into the riveting ongoing trial, Alex’s not-guilty plea, and prosecutors’ possible motives for these heinous murders.
“20/20” has new interviews with Curtis Eddie Smith, Alex’s alleged hired hitman from a separate incident, Aimee Zmorchek, Smith’s solicitor, and Mark Tinsley, Beach family solicitor. It also includes footage from an interview conducted by ABC News correspondent Eva Pilgrim with Alex’s brothers, Randy and John Marvin Murdaugh. Renee and Philip Beach discuss the loss of their daughter, Mallory; Gloria Satterfield’s siblings, Ginger Hadwin, Eric Harriott Jr., and Scott Harriott; and Satterfield’s sons, Brian Harriott and Michael “Tony” Satterfield. “20/20” premieres on ABC on Friday, March 3 (9:00-11:00 p.m. EST) and will be available on Hulu the following day.
