In the second heat, five fresh young chefs don their aprons to compete against culinary icons Kerth Gumbs and Poppy O’Toole. A Swansea-based midwife, a Dunstable-based mechanical engineering student, a West Bridgford-based caregiver for retirement communities, a Streatham-based student studying cuisine and hospitality, and a Tower Hamlets-based lash artist stand in front of the kitchen. The judges want to see the cooks’ personality on a plate, one that tells them exactly who they are as a person and a cook.
