Italian governments are selling vacant properties for one euro in an effort to revitalize run-down cities. Amanda realizes a lifelong dream when she buys two run-down flats in picture-perfect Salemi and persuades her best friend Alan to spend the summer repairing them in order to turn them into her Italian dream house. Arriving at the crumbling property for the first time, seeing the piles of rubbish and abandoned junk, it dawns on them that this is no holiday.
