Final Jeopardy Answer

The Final Jeopardy Answer is: Bayeux Tapestry

Final Jeopardy Explanation

The Bayeux Tapestry is known in French as the La Tapisserie de la Reine Mathilde, which translates to “The Tapestry of Queen Matilda”. It is known as this as according to French legend, Queen Matilda, the wife of William the Conqueror, and her ladies-in-waiting ordered and made the tapestry.

The tapestry shows a depiction of the events leading up to the Norman Conquest of England in 1066, spearheaded by William, Duke of Normandy challenging Harold II, King of England, and culminating in the Battle of Hastings.

It is an embroidered piece that is nearly 70 metres (230 ft) long and 50 centimetres (20 in) tall, and believed to date to the 11th century.

Although it tells the tale from the perspective of the invading Normans, it is now generally acknowledged to have been produced in England.
