While Al Capone was locked up at Alcatraz, he racked up time for good behavior and took up music, playing banjo in a band named The Rock Islanders. The Rock Islanders featured a rotating group of musicians who played as a privilege.

Capone played Tenor Bango, Tenor Guitar as well as a Mandola, and boasted to his son in a letter that he could play over 500 songs.
