20/20 “The Kill List” 2/10/23 Episode Summary

Relationships, antifreeze, a letter from the afterlife, and the inquiry into Julie Jensen’s disappearance.

Due to her devoted husband, Mark Jensen, their two adorable children, and their idyllic life in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, Julie Jensen seemed to have it all. Her family and friends were shocked when she was discovered dead in her bedroom just a few weeks before Christmas. What specifically was happening in Julie and Mark’s relationship, and could that have contributed to her murder? Whit Johnson, co-anchor of “Good Morning America Weekend” and host of “World News Tonight Saturday,” discusses the 25-year investigation into this death and the gripping trial that just finished.

This episode features interviews with Mark’s former coworker Ed Klug, Paul Griffin, Carli McNeill, David Thompson, who served time in prison alongside Mark, and Julie’s friends Ruth Vorwald and Kim Noble. A letter from Julie that Ted and Margaret Wojt received altered the course of the investigation; the programme also includes old interviews with them. On February 10 (9:01–11:00 p.m. EST), “20/20” will air on ABC; the following day, it will be streamed on Hulu.

In the Julie Jensen case, Mark Jensen, a resident of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, is on trial for allegedly killing his wife Julie Jensen on December 3, 1998. The case is noteworthy because a letter that the deceased wrote before she passed away and expressed suspicion about her husband’s intentions was eventually admitted into evidence.

Julie Jensen checked her husband’s planner, took a picture of a note, and recorded her suspicions.

She gave the neighbour the letter and asked them to give it to the police if anything happened to her. She declared in her letter that she would never kill herself and that the police should suspect her husband if she passed away. “I pray that I am wrong and nothing happens, but I am suspicious of Mark’s suspicious behaviors and fear for my early demise.”

How did a healthy mom end up dead in her home – and what was in a secret letter she left behind that pointed to her killer?

When Julie Jensen was found dead in her bedroom just weeks before Christmas, her family and friends were devastated. What could have led to her murder?

The letter changed the entire investigation into his wife’s death…

Julie Jensen’s neighbors gave a still-sealed letter to police the day after the Wisconsin mom-of-two was found dead in December 1998. That letter, penned by the murder victim herself, would later become key evidence leading to her killer.

He gave a testimony that shocked the courtroom. Now for Friday’s new 20/20, Ed Klug details what he says Mark Jensen discussed about his wife Julie Jensen shortly before her mysterious death.

“Standing at the foot of Julie’s bed, I didn’t see any obvious things that caused her death.”
Authorities spent 25 years on a quest seeking justice for Julie Jensen.
