Final Jeopardy Answer
The Final Jeopardy Answer is: Yellowstone National Park
Final Jeopardy Explanation
Yellowstone National Park is named after the Yellowstone River, from which it takes its historical name.
The history of the name of the Yellowstone River comes from French-Canadian trappers who visited the region in the 1800s who came across the Minnetaree Tribe, residents of present-day Montana. These Native Americans called the river “Mi tse a-da-zi,”, likely a translation of the Hidatsa name which means “Yellow Stone River.”
This meaning was adopted by the trappers, who rendered it as “Pierre Jaune” in French, meaning “Yellow Stone”.
