With musical performer Lizzo, it was hosted by actor Austin Butler, who starred in the popular movie Elvis. Austin Butler is the 18th debutant to host the Christmas episode of Saturday Night Live in the show’s history. Lizzo made her third musical guest appearance on the program.

The rock band Yeah Yeah Yeahs was scheduled to perform during this episode, but they had to reschedule due to guitarist Nick Zinner’s pneumonia hospitalisation the week before.
