The native inhabitants of the Mariana Islands, which include the US territory of Guam, are known as the Chamorro people.
The vast majority of Chamorros are Austronesian. Filipino ancestry is widespread (another Austronesian group). Together with evidence of Mexican and Hispanic descent, many also have Japanese ancestry.
Currently, Chamorros, the largest ethnic group in the territory, and other Micronesians make up almost half of Guam’s population.
