The Chamorro people are the indigenous people of the Mariana Islands, encompassing the United States territory of Guam.
The majority of Chamorros are Austronesian. Numerous people are of Filipino descent (another Austronesian group). Many also have Japanese ancestry and traces of Mexican and Hispanic origin.
Almost half of Guam’s present population is made up of Chamorros, the largest ethnic group in the territory, and other Micronesians.
