Final Jeopardy Answer

The Final Jeopardy Answer is: Alexandria

Final Jeopardy Explanation

The Great Library of Alexandria in Alexandria, Egypt, was one of the world’s largest and most important libraries likely established under the reign of Ptolemy II Philadelphus. The library was on a mission to acquire a copy of every book ever written.

Galen claims in the third volume of his work, Epidemics, that Ptolemy II became so fixated on his library that he ordered that any books discovered aboard ships calling at Alexandria be taken away and copied by official scribes.

Ptolemy would keep the originals and give the copies back to the owners. These books were later labelled as “from the ships.”
