Episode Summary
John Craven and Matt Baker are in England’s east coast to investigate how storms are consuming the coastline and endangering homes and livelihoods. John is in the north Norfolk town of Happisburgh, where the rate of land loss to the sea is expected to increase over the next few years. While one neighbour watches her house get closer and closer to the sea, the same sea she swims in to relieve her anxiety, one resident has already lost her home and has purchased another in the town.
We meet the farmer who is also letting nature have its way with an eye to the future by raising salt marsh lamb while Matt is in Suffolk and learns how wildlife is flourishing where the sea has reclaimed the land.
While Adam Henson studies the effects of new farm payments, Tom Heap is also in East Anglia looking into the threat to Britain’s breadbasket. Adrian Chiles is in north Wales for the first of a four-part strand, digging in to learn more about what it takes to be a hill farmer.
