Final Jeopardy Answer

The Final Jeopardy Answer is: Niccolò Machiavelli

Final Jeopardy Explanation

Niccol Machiavelli, an Italian Renaissance scholar, wrote the satirical play titled La Mandragola (known as The Mandrake in English).

The play revolves around a wealthy merchant named Nicias and his lovely wife Lucretia. Callimaco, a young man, hears about the lovely wife and aspires to be her lover. He learns about the couple’s futile child-bearing attempts and disguises himself as a doctor.

It is speculated that Machiavelli began writing The Mandrake in 1518 as a diversion from his resentment over being shut out of Florence’s diplomatic and political life after the 1512 return to Medici rule, even though the five-act comedy was published in 1524 and first performed during the carnival season of 1526.

Machiavelli is referred to as the “Father of Modern Political Philosophy and Political Science.” and is best known for his political treatise Il Principe (known as The Prince in English).
