Episode Summary
Countryfile presents “Wild Britain,” an ambitious 12-month effort to inspire us all to preserve and save our beautiful wildlife, taking up the mantle left by Sir David Attenborough’s Wild Isles.
On the Lincolnshire Fens, Ellie Harrison and Hamza Yassin are helping out as local volunteers and schoolchildren start converting an old playing field into a wildlife sanctuary by constructing a bog, a dead hedge, and a bug motel. To show the kids what species their play area might attract in a few years, Hamza also takes them on a wildlife safari to a neighboring nature reserve.
Twenty years after his initial journey, John Craven returns to Chester Zoo to see how the harvest mouse, the smallest rodent in the world, is doing. He also takes a walk along the Macclesfield Canal to see how each of us can establish our own wildlife sanctuary, no matter how much room we have. Tom Heap examines the UK’s legacy of environmental protection and considers if a new measure presently going through Parliament would jeopardize it. Additionally, Deborah Meaden and Dame Judi Dench, both of whom enjoy the outdoors, will make special appearances.
