Season 19 Episode 7 Episode Summary
For their first test, the Audition Round, nine home cooks arrive with both their ingredients and their dreams prepared. The UK’s top chefs compete in this year’s auditions, making a variety of delicacies that not only hope to impress the judges’ palates but also make their tongues dance. The contestants must demonstrate to John and Gregg who they are as cooks and how talented they could become by preparing their family favourite dish and making it MasterChef-worthy. They do not cook in front of John and Gregg in the MasterChef kitchen. They instead sample every dish in the Tasting Room. They evaluate each contestant’s meal simply based on the plate that is placed in front of them, just like restaurant patrons do.
After tasting each of the nine meals, John and Gregg select their three favourites, awarding those chefs with a well-deserved MasterChef apron and a pass to the next phase of cooking. The competition is still ongoing for the remaining six competitors, though. They have to work really hard to prepare a meal, whether it be sweet or savoury, that will be good enough to get them into the competition when they are faced with an invention test, and this time, John and Gregg are in the kitchen watching their every move. Only four cooks can join the three who have already been fast-tracked in the subsequent round of challenges, thus the stakes are extremely high and the pressure is immense. The MasterChef dream is ended for two people.
