In a chilling tale of deception and betrayal, Lori McLeod’s search for her missing daughter took a horrifying turn when she discovered that the man she trusted to help find her was actually her daughter’s killer. The shocking story of Scott Kimball, a man who posed as an FBI agent, is now being explored in a new episode of ABC’s “20/20,” hosted by correspondent John Quiñones.

Back in 2003, when McLeod’s 19-year-old daughter vanished, she turned to Kimball for assistance. Kimball had convinced McLeod that he was an FBI agent and could aid in the search for her daughter. Little did she know that this seemingly helpful figure was hiding a dark secret.

Three years later, during a routine check fraud investigation, authorities stumbled upon a startling revelation. They uncovered evidence connecting Kimball to multiple murders, some of which were committed while he was working as an FBI informant. The man McLeod had trusted to find her daughter turned out to be her daughter’s killer.

The two-hour episode of “20/20” delves deep into Kimball’s secret life of heinous crimes. Through exclusive interviews, viewers gain insight into his elaborate web of deceit. Kimball’s sons, Cody and Justin, share disturbing claims about their father’s alleged violence towards his own family, allegations that Kimball vehemently denies. Additionally, former cellmate Jimmy Tanksley reveals his initial agreement to help Kimball escape from prison but ultimately decided to alert the authorities about the plan.

20/20” also features the first network interviews with Kimball’s ex-wife Larissa and former FBI Special Agent Carle Schlaff, who utilized Kimball as an informant. The program further includes interviews with the parents of Kimball’s victims, as well as federal and local investigators involved in recovering the bodies and bringing Kimball to justice.

The episode promises to unravel the horrifying truth behind Kimball’s actions and shed light on the devastating consequences of his deceit. Viewers can tune in to “20/20” on Friday, May 12, from 9:01 to 11:00 p.m. EDT on ABC, with the episode becoming available on Hulu the following day.
