Following his brutal crackdown on demonstrators in Istanbul’s Gezi Park, Erdogan is now facing a corruption scandal as a new threat to his authority. Erdogan continues to strengthen his hold on power, becoming president and turning the office from a largely ceremonial status to a potent executive position while blaming it on his former supporter, the cleric Fethullah Gulen.
