Orlando: A Biography by Virginia Woolf is known for its exploration of gender and sexuality. The titular character, Orlando, starts the novel as a male nobleman in Elizabethan England and then mysteriously transforms into a woman halfway through the novel. From that point onwards, the pronouns for Orlando switch from ‘he’ to ‘she’. However, the novel also sometimes uses ‘their’ to refer to Orlando, reflecting the fluidity of the character’s gender identity.
