To start, the sewers try to produce a pair of trousers with a zero-waste design, which requires sophisticated mathematical abilities to figure out how to create the pattern pieces without leaving a scrap of waste fabric. In the Transformation Challenge, sewers must build a garment out of a mountain of used tote bags.
