Newcastle upon Tyne, often known simply as Newcastle is located in Northeast England. The “New Castle” was built by Robert Curthose, who was the eldest son of William the Conqueror. The castle was erected on the site of a Roman fort next to the River Tyne, giving the city its name. The original structure was replaced by the ‘New Castle’ in 1087, a stone keep which still stands today and is a popular tourist attraction.
