Episode Summary

Jools introduces a 60-minute journey through the show’s rich archive. This episode is a special tribute to some of the most influential women in the hip-hop soul genre who have graced the “Later…” studio over the years.

The archive footage brings back timeless performances from global sensations such as Erykah Badu, whose memorable debut on the show dates back to 1997. Viewers can also relive the early 2000s with electrifying performances by Kelis, India Arie, and Angie Stone, each leaving their mark on the “Later…” stage.

British stars of the hip-hop soul genre are also featured, including Mercury Prize winner Ms Dynamite from 2002, as well as Stefflon Don and Jorja Smith, both of whom made their memorable debuts in 2017. The archive highlights the incredible talent and impact of these artists on the music scene.

And, of course, the episode wouldn’t be complete without a nod to the remarkable Little Simz, whose contributions to the genre continue to shine brightly.
