Final Jeopardy Answer
The Final Jeopardy Answer is: Coca-Cola
Final Jeopardy Explanation
In 1916, Coca-Cola began packaging its flagship beverage in distinctive glass bottles known as Georgia Green. This choice of packaging was a strategic move to distinguish Coca-Cola from its numerous imitators at the time.
Coca-Cola launched a competition for the creation of a new bottle design that would be unique to the brand. The Root Glass Company of Terre Haute, Indiana, designed the winning bottle, inspired by the shape of a cocoa bean, even though Coca-Cola itself does not contain any cocoa. The design was patented in 1915, and production started in 1916.
The distinctive shape of the bottle, often referred to as the “contour” or “hobble skirt” bottle, was designed to be recognized even in the dark or if broken. The Georgia Green color added to its distinctiveness. This particular shade of green was named after the state where Coca-Cola was born and where its headquarters are located.
The success of the bottle design contributed greatly to Coca-Cola’s brand identity. It became so popular and iconic that it was even registered as a trademark in 1960.
