What Happened to Angela Bledsoe & Killer James Ray III?

In the days leading up to her tragic murder, Angela Bledsoe’s sister and cousin expressed growing concern for her safety and urged her to leave her Montclair home shared with James Ray III. On October 12, 2018, just ten days before her death, her sister, Lisa LaBoo, sent a text advising her to leave immediately due to worries about her safety. Ray admitted to shooting Angela on October 22, 2018, claiming self-defense as Angela allegedly pointed a gun at him.

Angela’s family’s concerns were heightened by her descriptions of Ray’s unusual behavior and threats directed at her and her new romantic interest. Her family urged her to file a police report, but she hesitated due to Ray’s denial and manipulation. Angela also hesitated to move out as she wanted her daughter to have both parents at home.

In the days leading to her murder, Angela wrote in her journal about her desire for a loving, respectful relationship, free from criticism and contempt, in stark contrast to her experiences with Ray. She expressed regret for getting involved with a married man like Ray.

After a family conference call urging her to leave and report Ray’s threats, LaBoo went on a weeklong cruise, losing contact with Angela. On October 23, she learned of her sister’s tragic death.

Ray was subsequently found guilty of first-degree murder and weapons offenses for Angela’s murder, which occurred when she was planning to move out. Ray was scheduled for sentencing on July 11, facing 30 years to life in prison. However, he was found dead in his cell at the Essex County Correctional Facility, less than a month before his sentencing. The cause of death was not immediately disclosed.
