In 2019, San Antonio was shaken by the vanishing of Andreen McDonald, a wealthy entrepreneur whose life seemed perfect. But it all took a sinister turn when she didn’t show up for her usual morning workout. As the alarm bells rang, the puzzle began.
Andreen and her husband, Andre McDonald, embodied success, with a dream home, luxury cars, and a thriving business. Yet, this fairy tale was shattered when Andreen inexplicably disappeared. Her belongings, including keys and purse, were found at home, her vehicles untouched. Investigator Frank Stubbs made a chilling discovery during a house search – blood in odd places and hair on a light switch.
Andre McDonald, a U.S. Air Force cyber warfare analyst, claimed he last saw his wife the night before her disappearance. The investigation unearthed disturbing evidence, like recently purchased items, including a shovel and ax, and clothing apparently belonging to Andre, found in one of their cars. Blood on a pair of jeans deepened the mystery.
The search for Andreen extended for months, involving law enforcement, volunteers, and concerned loved ones. Finally, 133 days after her vanishing, a local farmer made a grim discovery – what appeared to be a human skull.
Less than 48 hours later, Andre McDonald was arrested, charged with his wife’s murder. His trial in early 2023 took an unexpected twist as he recounted a harrowing confrontation with his wife, presenting an extraordinary self-defense claim that left many bewildered.

What Happened to Andreen McDonald?
In a tragic tale of a seemingly ideal marriage turned deadly, Andreen McDonald’s mysterious disappearance unraveled a harrowing murder case. Andre McDonald, an Air Force Major, and Andreen, a successful businesswoman, portrayed the perfect power couple. Yet, beneath the surface, their relationship was crumbling.
The fateful night of February 28, 2019, witnessed a fiery argument between them over a business disagreement, escalating to a tragic turn. As Andreen’s phone went silent after midnight on March 1, panic set in. Her friend Carol Ghanbar, alarmed by her absence, discovered bloodstains in their home, particularly on a light switch.
Andre McDonald’s behavior added to the suspicion. He provided conflicting information to investigators and made suspicious purchases, including an axe and trash bags. Inside their house, a hammer smeared with Andreen’s blood and DNA raised chilling questions.
Months later, Andreen’s remains were discovered on private property, a grim discovery indicating she likely died from blunt force trauma, consistent with a hammer attack.
As the trial neared, Andre McDonald’s shocking call to Andreen’s sister revealed his self-defense claim. At the trial, he maintained this defense, testifying that their argument had escalated, leading to a violent altercation. His demeanor during the trial was unsettling, displaying little remorse.
After intense deliberation, the jury found Andre guilty of manslaughter but refrained from a murder conviction. Judge Frank Castro sentenced him to 20 years in prison. His daughter, who wrote a heart-wrenching letter, summed up the pain: “You killed my mother. You took away my life and you broke my heart.”
