What Happened to Anna Moriah Wilson & Killer Kaitlin Armstrong?

In May 2022, Anna Moriah Wilson, a promising professional cyclist known as “Mo,” was tragically killed in Austin, Texas. She was shot just days before a major race she was favored to win. The prime suspect in her murder was Kaitlin Marie Armstrong, who had a turbulent relationship with another cyclist, Colin Strickland, and allegedly acted out of jealousy due to Wilson’s brief romantic involvement with Strickland.

Anna Moriah Wilson had a lifelong passion for cycling. Before her full-time career as a professional cyclist, she worked as a demand planner for Specialized. Kaitlin Armstrong was a yoga teacher and licensed realtor. She had a long-term relationship with Colin Strickland, a fellow cyclist, marked by periods of separation and reconciliation.

On May 11, 2022, Wilson was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds at a friend’s residence in Austin, Texas. An autopsy confirmed her death as a homicide. Surveillance footage showed Armstrong’s involvement, raising suspicions about her.

Investigations revealed Wilson’s romantic involvement with Strickland while he was still dating Armstrong. Armstrong’s alleged threats against Wilson raised concerns about her intentions. Firearms purchased by Armstrong were linked to the crime scene.

After 43 days on the run, Armstrong was apprehended in Costa Rica by the U.S. Marshals on June 29, 2022. She was held on a $3.5 million bond and pleaded not guilty to the murder charge.

Armstrong’s trial began on October 30, 2023, during which she unsuccessfully attempted to suppress evidence obtained during custodial interrogation. She also made a failed escape attempt.

On November 16, 2023, Armstrong was found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to 90 years in prison, with parole eligibility after 30 years. She is appealing her conviction, and the escape charge against her was dropped.
