Today’s Final Jeopardy Answer – Friday, March 22 2024

The Final Jeopardy Answer is: Rosetta Stone

Final Jeopardy Explanation – Friday, March 22 2024

The artifact inscribed with “Captured in Egypt by the British Army 1801” is named after the city where it was found, which is the Rosetta Stone. The Rosetta Stone was discovered in 1799 by French soldiers near the town of Rosetta (Rashid) in Egypt during Napoleon’s Egyptian campaign. However, it came into British possession after the defeat of the French forces in Egypt by the British in 1801. The stone is famed for providing the key to deciphering Egyptian hieroglyphs, thanks to its inscriptions in three scripts: hieroglyphic, Demotic, and Greek. This decipherment opened up the study of Egyptian literature and civilization to scholars worldwide.
