48 Hours “The Unending Search for Sara Anne Wood” September 21 2024 Recap & Preview

In a powerful and haunting episode of “48 HOURS,” correspondent Erin Moriarty investigates a chilling case in “The Unending Search for Sara Anne Wood,” set to air on September 21, 2024, at 10:00 PM ET/PT on CBS and streaming on Paramount+. This season kickoff marks the beginning of a double feature, starting at 9:00 PM ET/PT.

The episode delves into the heartbreaking story of Sara Anne Wood, who was just 12 years old when she disappeared on August 18, 1993, while walking home from church in Sauquoit, New York. Her convicted killer, Lewis Lent, a handyman and former movie theater janitor, remains tight-lipped about the location of her body, despite being imprisoned for his crimes.

Dusty Wood, Sara’s brother, shares the profound impact of her disappearance. “Finding the body is important because then my mother could know where she is,” he tells Moriarty. The search for Sara has spanned three decades, during which “48 HOURS” has maintained an unprecedented connection with the case. Moriarty previously interviewed Becky Savarese, a young girl who escaped an attempted kidnapping by Lent and provided crucial information to law enforcement.

Retired New York State Police detective Frank Lawrence reveals the chilling details of Lent’s “master plan” to prey on vulnerable individuals. Despite Lent’s confession and a drawn map leading investigators on extensive searches in remote areas, Sara’s body has never been found. New York State Police detectives remain relentless, frequently visiting Lent in prison in hopes of uncovering more about her case and possibly others.

For Dusty Wood, the focus is not on Lent, but on raising awareness about child abductions. “The most important thing for us as a family is to protect kids… and make sure that if there’s anything that can be done to protect them from monsters like Lewis Lent, that it be done.”

Tune in to “48 HOURS” for this poignant and deeply unsettling investigation into a family’s enduring search for closure and justice.
