In 2016, Nathan Carman was found alone and adrift at sea on a life raft after a fishing trip with his mother, Linda. While Nathan was rescued by a cargo ship following a massive search by the U.S. Coast Guard, Linda was nowhere to be found. The case initially seemed like a miraculous survival story, but it soon raised questions about Nathan’s role in his mother’s disappearance. As investigators delved deeper, they uncovered troubling ties between Nathan and the 2013 unsolved murder of his grandfather, John Chakalos, a millionaire who was found dead in his Connecticut home in an execution-style killing. Nathan has consistently denied any involvement in either death.

In this 20/20 episode, Deborah Roberts investigates startling new revelations and exclusive interviews with key figures in the case, including law enforcement officials who provide fresh insights into the investigation. Viewers will also hear from Carman family members, including Charlene Gallagher, Nathan’s Aunt, and Charles LaPenna, John Chakalos’ nephew, who reflect on the tragic events and their devastating aftermath.

20/20 also features interviews with retired law enforcement officers, FBI agents, and author Casey Sherman, who wrote “Blood in the Water”, a book about the case. Together, they shine new light on the mysterious deaths and the ongoing search for the truth.

Don’t miss this riveting 20/20 episode on April 4, 2025, at 9:01 PM EDT on ABC. The episode will also be available for streaming the following day on Hulu.
