Leonard.

Lori Leonard, a 33-year-old single mother of two, went missing in 2019 after meeting Shawn M. Doyle online. The two developed a relationship, and Doyle even helped Leonard move before her disappearance. Leonard’s family grew concerned when she failed to return home after dropping off her children. Two months later, her body was discovered in the Champlain Canal, weighted down in a metal toolbox, sending shockwaves through the small community of Chittenango, New York.

Shawn Doyle, 29, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder after an intense investigation by law enforcement, which included over 750 interviews and more than 280 leads. The key piece of evidence that led to his arrest was a key found in Doyle’s vehicle, which matched the lock on the toolbox containing Leonard’s body.

In this powerful episode, 48 Hours takes viewers inside the investigation, featuring exclusive interviews with law enforcement officials, Leonard’s family, and those close to the case. The episode also sheds light on the haunting memories of the teenager who survived Doyle’s attack and was later forced to confront him in court.
