ABC 20/20 “Three Shots in the Dark” June 27 2025

ABC’s 20/20 revisits one of the most shocking and high-profile murder cases in recent memory in the two-hour episode Three Shots in the Dark, airing Friday, June 27, 2025, from 9:01 to 11:00 p.m. EDT. The program takes viewers inside the tragic 2022 killing of rising star cyclist Anna Moriah Wilson, whose life was cut short just days before a major gravel race in Austin, Texas.

Wilson, known for her talent and determination, had once dated fellow cyclist Colin Strickland. When she was found dead in a friend’s home, suspicion quickly turned to Kaitlin Armstrong—Strickland’s on-again/off-again girlfriend. What followed was a massive manhunt stretching across borders and lasting 43 days, ending with Armstrong’s capture in Costa Rica. In November 2023, she was convicted of murder. She has since filed an appeal, which remains under review.

Chief national correspondent Matt Gutman leads the investigation, featuring exclusive interviews that shed new light on the case. Kaitlin’s father, Mike Armstrong, speaks out publicly, as does Nicole Mertz, a former friend who tipped off police after recalling disturbing remarks Kaitlin allegedly made. Prosecutors Rickey Jones and Guillermo Gonzalez, along with Travis County District Attorney Jose Garza, share insights into the courtroom battle that led to a conviction.

Also featured are firsthand accounts from the Austin neighbor who handed over key surveillance footage and residents in Costa Rica who witnessed Armstrong’s final days on the run.

20/20’s Three Shots in the Dark offers a detailed and emotional look at a crime that shocked the cycling world, examining not just the facts, but the personal stories behind them. The episode is a rebroadcast of its original airing on January 5, 2024, and will be available to stream the next day on Hulu.
