ABC 20/20 “A Killer Renovation” July 11 2025

This Friday, July 11, 2025, 20/20 returns with a gripping two-hour encore presentation titled A Killer Renovation, airing from 9:01 to 11:00 p.m. EDT on ABC. Co-anchor Deborah Roberts investigates the shocking murder of Shanti Cooper-Tronnes, a well-loved mother and successful businesswoman, found dead in her Orlando home under disturbing and mysterious circumstances.

At first, the case appeared to be a robbery gone wrong—Shanti’s $15,000 diamond ring had vanished, and her husband, David Tronnes, claimed to have found her lifeless body. But police quickly began to suspect that something far more sinister had taken place. The episode explores how the couple’s home renovation, which was set to be featured on the A&E series Zombie House Flipping, may have played a key role in Shanti’s murder.

Investigators uncovered a tangled web of secrets and a troubled marriage fueled by money, control, and deception. Prosecutors argued that David Tronnes was hiding something major—something he feared would come to light if his wife left him. That fear, they say, turned deadly.

20/20 features exclusive post-trial interviews with Jackson Cooper, Shanti’s teenage son, who fought bravely for justice in the wake of his mother’s death, and Jim Cooper, Shanti’s ex-husband. The program also includes emotional interviews with detectives Teresa Sprague and Barbara Sharp, who led the investigation, as well as prosecutors, close friends, and family members who stood by Shanti.

With insights from former prosecutor Ryan Vescio, Zombie House Flipping host Keith Ori, and others close to the case, A Killer Renovation paints a full picture of a woman’s life cut short—and the complex puzzle investigators had to piece together to bring her killer to justice.

Watch the full episode Friday on ABC, with streaming available the next day on Hulu.
