ABC 20/20 “The Final Cut” November 21 2025

ABC’s 20/20 returns with an all-new true crime special titled The Final Cut, airing Friday, November 21 at 9/8c. The chilling two-hour episode peels back the layers of one of the most disturbing workplace murders in recent memory—centered around two hairstylists, one of whom was living a lie.

The episode follows the 2018 disappearance of Joleen Cummings, a beloved single mother and hairdresser from Fernandina Beach, Florida. She was last seen leaving Tangles Hair Salon after her shift. When she failed to pick up her children the next day, concern turned into alarm. As investigators retraced her steps, all signs pointed to her co-worker Jennifer Sybert—who soon revealed she was actually Kimberly Kessler, a woman who had been living under at least 17 different aliases across 14 states.

Through never-before-seen footage, interrogation clips, and exclusive interviews, The Final Cut reveals how a confrontation between Joleen and Kessler about her true identity may have led to murder. Inside the salon, investigators discovered blood evidence, surveillance footage of Kessler dumping trash bags, and purchases of cleaning supplies and an electric carving knife—all pointing toward a premeditated crime. Despite Kessler’s efforts to fake incompetency and derail the trial with erratic behavior, she was ultimately found guilty in 2021 and sentenced to life in prison.

The special includes emotional interviews with Joleen’s family and friends, as well as law enforcement officials who worked tirelessly on the case. With Kessler’s shocking web of lies finally exposed, 20/20 delivers a haunting portrait of a predator hiding in plain sight—and a community shattered by the loss of a devoted mother.

Watch The Final Cut this Friday on ABC, and stream it the next day on Disney+ and Hulu.
