ABC 20/20 “What the Little Girl Saw” February 6 2026
ABC’s 20/20 returns with a chilling two-hour true crime special, What the Little Girl Saw, airing Friday, February 6, 2026, at 9:00 p.m. EST. Co-anchor Deborah Roberts leads the report into the brutal murder of Kelley Clayton, a mother of two whose death rocked a small New York community — and whose 7-year-old daughter became the sole eyewitness to the horrifying crime.
Kelley Clayton was found bludgeoned to death in her Elmira home in 2015. Her husband, former semi-pro hockey player Thomas Clayton, made the 911 call after returning from a poker game with friends. But investigators quickly began to question his account of the night. Their suspicions deepened when they uncovered a twisted murder-for-hire plot that would take years to fully unravel.
The episode features powerful police body cam footage from the crime scene, along with a haunting video interview of then-7-year-old Charlie Clayton, the couple’s daughter, who bravely recounted what she saw that night.
In an exclusive interview with Nightline co-anchor Byron Pitts, Michael Beard, the man convicted of carrying out the killing, speaks from prison and maintains his innocence. It’s the first time Beard publicly shares his version of events, offering new insight into a case that continues to stir controversy.
Also included are emotional interviews with Kelley’s family, including her mother Elizabeth Stage and sister Kim Bourgeois, as they reflect on her life and the aftermath of her death. Former friends of Thomas Clayton, Greg and Lucky Miller, recall the night he played poker — and how their memories became crucial in the investigation. Prosecutors Weeden Wetmore and Susan Rider-Ulacco, along with Steuben County Sheriff James Allard, provide a detailed breakdown of how the case was built.
What the Little Girl Saw is a harrowing look at betrayal, violence, and the strength of a child who helped bring justice to her mother’s memory. Watch the full episode Friday night on ABC and stream it the next day on Hulu and Disney+.
