Dateline NBC “Missing Ana” June 12 2026
Dateline NBC examines one of the most widely followed international missing-person cases in recent years with “Missing Ana,” airing Friday, June 12, 2026, at 10 p.m. ET/9 p.m. CT on NBC. Reported by José Díaz-Balart, the broadcast follows the disappearance of Ana Maria Knezevich Henao, an American businesswoman who vanished from her apartment in Madrid, Spain, in February 2024, setting off an international investigation that stretched across multiple countries.
Ana, a successful entrepreneur originally from Colombia who later became a U.S. citizen, had relocated from South Florida to Madrid following the breakdown of her marriage to David Knezevich. Friends said she viewed the move as a fresh start and hoped to rebuild her life while navigating a contentious divorce and financial dispute.
On February 2, 2024, Ana disappeared without warning. Friends became concerned when they stopped hearing from her and received unusual messages that did not seem consistent with her normal behavior. Spanish investigators soon uncovered surveillance footage showing a man wearing a motorcycle helmet entering Ana’s apartment building, disabling a security camera with spray paint, and later leaving carrying what appeared to be a large suitcase. The disturbing images became a central focus of the investigation.
As authorities examined Ana’s final days, evidence increasingly pointed toward her estranged husband, David Knezevich. Prosecutors alleged that he traveled from the United States to Europe and carefully planned the crime. Investigators linked him to rental vehicles, purchases of spray paint and other materials, and movements in Madrid around the time Ana disappeared.
In May 2024, David Knezevich was arrested in Miami and charged with kidnapping resulting in death, foreign domestic violence resulting in death, and the murder of a U.S. national abroad. Despite extensive searches conducted in Spain and elsewhere, Ana’s body has never been found, leaving many questions unanswered about exactly what happened after she vanished.
The case took another dramatic turn in April 2025 when David Knezevich was found dead in a federal detention facility in Florida while awaiting trial. Authorities ruled the death an apparent suicide. His death meant prosecutors would never have the opportunity to present their case before a jury, and Ana’s family would be left without a criminal trial that might have provided additional answers.
For “Missing Ana,” Díaz-Balart speaks with key figures involved in the investigation, including Spanish detectives Remo Rodriguez and Emilio Tremino Leva, retired FBI agent Alex Montilla, and Ana’s close friends Sanna Rameau and Eliza Romero. Their interviews provide insight into Ana’s life, the international search effort, and the complex investigation that followed her disappearance.
The Dateline special explores the evidence, the unanswered questions, and the lasting impact of a case that crossed continents and captured international attention. More than two years after Ana disappeared, her family and friends continue to seek answers about her fate and the circumstances surrounding her final days in Madrid.
