60 Minutes 3/19/2023 Episode Summary, Videos & Previews
The State of the Navy
Norah O’Donnell travels on board the USS Nimitz, a United States Navy aircraft carrier operating in the Western Pacific southeast of Taiwan and China, as relations between the two countries remain tense. O’Donnell reports on the state of the Navy amid threats of a Chinese invasion of Taiwan, an important American ally, with rare access to the ship and its officers during a deployment. Admiral Samuel Paparo, the commander of the US Pacific Fleet, and Admiral Mike Gilday, the head of naval operations, both join O’Donnell on air to discuss current events. The report includes an open discussion of U.S. contingency planning for Taiwan and how the U.S. is trying to keep up with China’s astonishingly quick naval and military buildup while trying to maintain readiness. This segment is two lengths. Keith Sharman and Roxanne Feitel are the producers.
Only in America
Rocco Commisso, a billionaire businessman who was born in a southern Italian town, raised in the Bronx, ran a hugely prosperous cable TV empire, and eventually purchased a professional football team, is profiled by Sharyn Alfonsi. Alfonsi meets Commisso in the Bronx and they travel to Florence, Italy, for an AC Fiorentina match, following Commisso’s American dream. Producer Guy Campanile is in charge.
