Scourge of Our Time

Bill Whitaker investigates the devastating impact of fentanyl, a synthetic opioid originally designed to help patients in severe pain. This segment explores how fentanyl has fueled the worst drug crisis in U.S. history, claiming over 70,000 lives last year. Whitaker examines the root causes, from the role of major drug companies in peddling prescription opioids to the Mexican cartels’ control over the illicit fentanyl market. The investigation includes interviews with top U.S. officials about efforts to combat this crisis. Produced by Graham Messick and Scott Higham.

The Trustbuster

Lesley Stahl interviews Lina Khan, the youngest-ever chair of the Federal Trade Commission. Khan, a powerful and controversial figure, discusses her commitment to enforcing antitrust policies as part of the Biden administration’s shift away from four decades of a hands-off approach to corporate regulation. This segment is produced by Shachar Bar-On.

Inside the Archives

Norah O’Donnell takes viewers inside the National Archives, highlighting the agency’s vital role in preserving America’s history after former President Donald Trump and then-Vice President Biden retained documents that should have been turned over. O’Donnell gains rare access to the Archives, showcasing significant artifacts, including oaths of allegiance signed by George Washington and Alexander Hamilton, Adolf Hitler’s will, and President Nixon’s resignation letter. The story also reveals plans for the Emancipation Proclamation and the 19th Amendment to be permanently displayed in the Archives’ Rotunda by 2026. Producers are Keith Sharman and Roxanne Feitel.
