The Kidnapping of Michelle and Breea Renee 2/11/23 Episode Summary
Breea Renee, the 7-year-old daughter of Michelle Renee, was present when three masked gunmen came into the bank manager’s Vista, California, house in November 2000 and held them hostage all night. If she didn’t rob the bank she worked at, they threatened to kill them. If Renee didn’t comply, the kidnappers vowed to strap her with dynamite and set it off the next morning. Her daughter’s life and her own were in danger when she walked inside the bank, but she left with $360,000.
Renee hurried home to find her daughter still alive and called for help once the attackers had the money. The police discovered that the dynamite was fake when they arrived. The detectives would receive an important tip from Renee that would help them crack the case. When the suspects were put on trial, the ringleader lied and said Renee had planned the bank robbery and that they were having an affair. 48 HOURS contributor Tracy Smith discusses Renee’s account of what happened and the trauma that she and her daughter have had to go through in “The Kidnapping of Michelle and Breea Renee,” which will air on Saturday, February 11 (10:00–11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network and stream on Paramount+.
