Discovery Channel to Premiere New Season of “Expedition Unknown” on Wednesday, May 24
Adventurer and explorer Josh Gates is back on the small screen, taking viewers on an unforgettable journey across five continents in search of answers to some of the world’s most intriguing mysteries. The new season of his show Expedition Unknown premieres on Discovery Channel on Wednesday, May 24 at 9:00PM ET/PT.
Throughout the eight-episode season, Josh travels to various parts of the world to solve puzzles and uncover hidden treasures. In Africa, he dives into sunken tombs, while in Cambodia, he works to reclaim looted statues. He also embarks on a journey to discover a pirate’s lost treasure in the icy waters of the UK, with one adventure providing him with the most terrifying moments of his career.
One of the highlights of the new season is a two-part investigation in which Josh heads to the Royal Necropolis of Nuri to join archaeologists on the brink of a groundbreaking discovery. They believe there is an undisturbed royal tomb hidden beneath a crumbling pyramid, preserved in the darkness of flooded, subterranean chambers. A dangerous dive is the only way to pursue the monumental find: the mummified remains of an ancient king.
Josh also visits Israel in search of the lost Biblical town of Bethsaida, where Jesus is said to have performed miracles. In addition, he seeks the greatest pirate treasure ever plundered in the UK, and uncovers mysteriously vanished WWI minesweepers at the bottom of Lake Superior. In Cambodia, Josh works to unearth a long-buried temple and joins the fight to bring the looted treasures of the Khmer Empire back to their rightful place.
