Dateline NBC “On a Dark, Deserted Highway” 2/3/23 Episode Summary
After a deadly high-speed chase in Montana, Dateline sets out on a journey through 50 years of history to uncover the mystery of how one man turned into a monster and committed one of the most notorious crimes in the state.
This week, the Broadwater County Sheriff’s Office deputy’s murder from 2017 will be discussed, and there will be fresh information about those responsible for the killing of Deputy Mason Moore on May 16, 2017, close to Three Forks, along Highway 287.
The father and son who were behind the shooting in the morning, Lloyd and Marshall Barrus, started a high-speed chase on Interstate 90 when officers spotted the two men near Anaconda. It continued all the way to Rock Creek, 30 miles east of Missoula, where a shootout took place. Marshall Barrus was shot and killed by police there, and his father Lloyd Barrus, who was operating the car, was taken into custody. After being found guilty of intentional homicide at his trial in 2021, Lloyd Barrus was given a life sentence.
