Laurence Olivier & Ernest Borgnine were considered for the lead role & Sergio Leone to direct for this film that turned 50 in 2022
Final Jeopardy Answer
The Final Jeopardy Answer is: The Godfather
Final Jeopardy Explanation
The Godfather was released in 1972 and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2022.
The first actor to be offered the part of Don Vito Corleone was Sir Laurence Olivier, who declined due to scheduling conflicts. The producers reportedly considered Ernest Borgnine before choosing Marlin Brando.
Francis Ford Coppola was not the initial choice to direct The Godfather; instead, Sergio Leone was. Sergio Leone was thought of as the most appropriate person to direct the epic tale of an Italian immigrant’s ascent to godfather status in America as Leone is an Italian-American, in the opinion of the producers. Leone, however, was preoccupied with directing his own gangster film, Once Upon A Time In America.
