Al-Maghrib Al-Aqsa is associated with a region that is roughly equivalent to modern-day Morocco, the north-west corner of Africa, plus a small amount of the Iberian peninsula.

Due to events in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Morocco’s modern nation-state is a relatively new creation. It was at one time a province of the Roman Empire, known as Mauretania.
