Episode Summary
Matt Baker and Margherita Taylor are back in the New Forest in Hampshire ten months after their initial trip to meet up with the locals and families who have banded together to aid Ukrainian immigrants. Nearly 170,000 people have arrived in the UK since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, and rural communities all over the country have welcomed them with open arms.
In order to learn more about their experiences since moving to a rural area of Hampshire over a year ago, Margherita gets up with a mother and daughter who fled the war. Matt returns to a team of volunteers who have been gathering and packing humanitarian material for Poland and the Ukraine to learn how their operation has altered in the last 12 months.
We also spend time with Ukrainians who work on our farms and observe how seasonal worker hiring has changed since the war mostly shut off this essential resource. Adam gets in touch with a Ukrainian farmer to find out how the war has affected his country’s crops since they last spoke 10 months ago.
