Final Jeopardy Answer

The Final Jeopardy Answer is: Édouard Manet and Claude Monet

Final Jeopardy Explanation

Édouard Manet, commented at the 1865 Paris Art Salon that if the younger, Claude Monet, were successful, it would be because his name sounds like Manet’s in his quote “Who is this Monet whose name sounds just like mine and who is taking advantage of my notoriety?“.

Édouard Manet was already well-known in the Paris art scene by 1865. His work, while controversial, was cutting edge and attracted much attention, establishing him as a significant player in the transition from Realism to Impressionism.

Claude Monet was beginning to make a name for himself during the 1860s. Monet would become one of the founders of French Impressionism, known for his en plein air (outdoor) painting style and his emphasis on capturing the fleeting effects of light and color.
