A collection of achievements bearing this name was established in the early 1950s to help resolve pub disputes
Final Jeopardy Answer
The Final Jeopardy Answer is: The Guinness Book of Records
Final Jeopardy Explanation
The Guinness Book of Records, also known as Guinness World Records, was first established in the early 1950s with the aim of settling pub arguments. Sir Hugh Beaver, the managing director of the Guinness Brewery at the time, came up with the idea for the book after a debate in a pub over the fastest game bird in Europe. Realizing that similar disputes were likely common in pubs across Britain, he commissioned twins Norris and Ross McWhirter, who ran a fact-finding agency, to compile a book of records.
What started as a reference tool for settling casual debates gained traction far beyond that scope. People found the compilation of extreme achievements, both human and natural, to be captivating. Now updated yearly, the book has transcended its initial function to become a cultural phenomenon, inspiring a range of media from TV programs to museums. It remains the go-to source for verification of world records.
