Final Jeopardy Explanation
After “Black Monday” in 1987, a major stock market crash, sculptor Arturo Di Modica placed a statue of a bull in Manhattan to symbolize strength and power. This statue, known as the “Charging Bull” or “Wall Street Bull,” was installed by Di Modica without official permission in December 1989. He intended it as a gift to the city of New York and as a symbol of the resilience and spirit of its people, particularly in the context of the financial community’s recovery efforts following the crash.
The bronze statue, which stands in the Bowling Green Park near Wall Street, quickly became a popular attraction and a symbol of financial optimism and prosperity. Over the years, it has also come to be seen as an embodiment of Wall Street itself. The Charging Bull is now one of the most recognizable landmarks in New York City’s Financial District.
