48 Hours “Capturing Moriah Wilson’s Killer” January 27 2024 Recap & Preview

In the upcoming episode of 48 HOURS, titled “Capturing Moriah Wilson’s Killer,” viewers will be taken on a gripping journey into the investigation of a tragic murder that shook the cycling community.

Cyclist Moriah Wilson arrived in Austin, Texas, to prepare for the Gravel Locos bike race but met a tragic end. Her close friend discovered her lifeless body, shot multiple times, prompting a desperate call to 911. Despite efforts to revive her through CPR, it was too late.

The investigation into Moriah Wilson’s murder began to point towards Kaitlin Armstrong as the prime suspect. An anonymous call provided crucial insight into the mind of the suspected killer.

Colin Strickland, a fellow professional bike racer, had dropped Moriah off at her friend’s apartment on the fateful night. Security footage captured a black Jeep SUV, owned by Kaitlin Armstrong, passing by just one minute after Strickland had left Wilson. Strickland had shared that he and Wilson had briefly dated in late 2021 but had since become friends.

When Strickland cooperated with investigators, he revealed details about his relationship with Armstrong, portraying her as the jealous type. He also mentioned that he had been out with Wilson but told Armstrong he was running errands.

Police acted swiftly, arresting Armstrong on an old warrant related to a Botox treatment payment. During the interview, Armstrong displayed little emotion.

However, an unexpected call from a friend of Armstrong’s revealed disturbing information. Armstrong’s anger over Strickland’s relationship with Wilson had escalated to a point where she reportedly wanted to harm Wilson. Shortly after this revelation, an arrest warrant was issued for Armstrong. Unfortunately, when authorities went to apprehend her, she had vanished.

Deputy U.S. Marshals Damien Fernandez and Emir Perez joined the case and uncovered that Armstrong had used her sister’s passport to flee to Costa Rica. With a tip suggesting she might be in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica, the Marshals faced the challenge of locating her in a village where many women resembled Kaitlin.

Their innovative approach involved posting an ad looking for a yoga instructor, as Armstrong was believed to be involved in yoga. Just as they were about to return to the United States, they received a breakthrough in their pursuit of the fugitive.
