Final Jeopardy Answer

The Final Jeopardy Answer is: Stockholm

Final Jeopardy Explanation

Stockholm syndrome is a condition in which hostages form a psychological bond with their captors. It is named after the capital of Sweden, Stockholm, which was founded in 1252.

The Norrmalmstorg Robbery was a hostage situation involving a bank that is best known for coining the phrase “Stockholm syndrome.” It took place in August 1973 at Norrmalmstorg Square in Stockholm, Sweden, and was the country’s first criminal incident to be broadcast live on television.

There is academic interest in the topic because the hostages felt sympathy for their captors. The criminologist Nils Bejerot coined the Swedish phrase Norrmalmstorgssyndromet (the Norrmalmstorg syndrome), later known as the Stockholm syndrome.
