MIMAL, sometimes said to be the silhouette of a chef or elf, stands for Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, these 2 states
Final Jeopardy Answer
The Final Jeopardy Answer is: Arkansas and Louisiana
Final Jeopardy Explanation
Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, and Louisiana are the five states that make up the west bank of the Mississippi, running from north to south. The name of a fictional character allegedly created from the outline of these states is called Mimal (the Elf).
Mimal’s hat is the state of Minnesota, his face is Iowa, and his shirt is Missouri. Arkansas and Louisiana stand in for Mimal’s pants and boots, respectively.
Occasionally, Kentucky and Tennessee are also depicted in the image to give the impression that Mimal is cooking chicken, with Kentucky acting as the chicken and Tennessee as the pan.
The term was created as a mnemonic to help Social Studies students learn US geography because of the five states’ distinctive shapes as a result of the Mississippi River.
