Until 1806, some German nobles included among their honors the title of “Elector” for their role in selecting this personage
Final Jeopardy Answer
The Final Jeopardy Answer is: Holy Roman Emperor
Final Jeopardy Explanation
Prince-electors, or electors (Kurfürst in German), of the Holy Roman Empire were the members of the electoral college who chose the Roman king or, beginning in the middle of the 16th century, selecting the Holy Roman Emperor directly.
The dignity of an elector was highly regarded and was only second to that of a king or an emperor. The electors continued to hold their original titles in addition to the elector title, and they enjoyed special privileges that were not available to other princes of the Empire.
Emperor Francis II of the Holy Roman Empire, under pressure from Napoleon and several German princes (including some Electors), dissolved the Empire by decree on August 6, 1806. Thus, the role of Prince-elector became defunct after this date.
