After its completion in the late 19th century, it was called a “truly tragic street lamp” & a “high & skinny pyramid of iron ladders”

Today’s Final Jeopardy Answer – Thursday, March 9 2023

The Final Jeopardy Answer is: Eiffel Tower

Final Jeopardy Explanation – Thursday, March 9 2023

Named after the engineer Gustave Eiffel, whose company designed and built the tower, the Eiffel Tower is a wrought-iron lattice tower on Paris’ Champ de Mars.

Some of France’s top artists and intellectuals initially criticised its design, calling it “this truly tragic street lamp” and “this high and skinny pyramid of iron ladders, this giant ungainly skeleton” respectively, according to Léon Bloy and Guy de Maupassant.

Since then, the Eiffel Tower has developed into one of the most recognisable buildings in the world and a global symbol of French culture.
